Maharashtra govt, Lodha sign ₹30,000 cr MoU for Palava data hub

The Maharashtra government and Lodha Developers have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹30,000 crore to set up a green integrated data centre park at Palava, a planned township near Dombivli in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The investment, announced a year after the state approved its integrated data centre policy, is expected to generate 6,000 direct and indirect jobs.

According to Lodha, the project will cover 370 acres with a planned capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW), designed to accommodate multiple international and domestic operators. The company added that the total investments, including contributions from Lodha and other data centre players, will exceed ₹30,000 crore.

The initiative stems from the state’s 2019 declaration of integrated data centres as a ‘thrust area’ for industrial growth. In October 2024, Maharashtra introduced a policy promoting green integrated data centre parks, encouraging their development with a focus on sustainability.

Under the policy, data centres—typically heavy electricity consumers—will be powered by renewable and alternative energy sources to reduce their environmental footprint. The government has planned three such parks across the MMR region, with the Palava site being among the first.

Officials said the partnership with Lodha marks a significant step toward strengthening Maharashtra’s position as a leader in digital infrastructure, aligning with rising demand for secure, scalable, and green data ecosystems.
