IBM sets up cyber security hub in Bengaluru

IBM told the media that it has installed a cyber security hub in Bengaluru to help businesses across the Asia Pacific region, to handle and control the increasing threat of cyber attacks.

The hub would have a new IBM Security Command Center, the first of its kind in the area, for training cybersecurity response techniques via highly realistic, simulated cyberattack, designed to prepare everyone from C-Suite via technical staff, the company told the media.

The hub, situated at IBM’s Embassy Golf Links facility in Bengaluru, would additionally feature a new Security Operation Center (SOC) to render 24X7 security response services to customers around the world. The cybersecurity hub can accommodate 600 security experts.

As per the IBM Security X-Force Threat Intelligence Index, Asia is currently the most targeted area for cyberattacks, representing 26% of all global attacks analysed in 2021.

The data discloses a powerful regional shift as against the past decade of the report, where North America and Europe have historically ranked as most targeted. This trend signals an increasing requirement for security investments amongst Asian firms, especially those in financial services and manufacturing, which were the most-targeted enterprises in the area, according to the index.

Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India, told the media that one of the greatest challenges affecting the success of the exponentially increasing digital economy and that of nations across the world is cybersecurity. They need cutting-edge technology and the coming together of the entire ecosystem to handle this threat. The rolling out of the IBM Cybersecurity Hub is, in fact, a response to this challenge.

The new cybersecurity centre would help manage the most pressing need of the hour for firms to boost their security strategies and align business priorities with a security-first approach, he added.
