Karnataka Leads India in Public Bus Fleet Strength

Karnataka has emerged as a leader in India’s public transport sector, operating one of the largest bus fleets in the country. According to official data, Bengaluru runs 7,067 city buses under the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), while the state’s total fleet under KSRTC and other divisions stands at 26,054 buses.

The extensive network supports millions of daily commuters and reflects the state government’s continued investment in improving public mobility and reducing dependence on private vehicles.

Officials highlighted that the transport corporations are increasingly focusing on electrification and operational efficiency, aligning with India’s clean mobility and sustainable transport goals.
