Hyderabad hosted the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026, where policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers and energy-efficiency experts called for closer collaboration to accelerate cleaner technology adoption. The discussions focused on improving energy efficiency, strengthening climate resilience and supporting progress towards a sustainable, net-zero economy. Participants highlighted the economic and environmental pressures caused by recurring El Niño-related weather patterns, rising temperatures, heatwaves, floods and severe droughts. They said an integrated approach involving governments, industry and institutions was needed to address the effects of climate change on economies and natural resources. The summit also reviewed the role of Energy Efficiency Services (EESL), an organisation under the Ministry of Power, in working with State governments and industry. EESL has collaborated with stakeholders in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to support energy efficiency and sustainable industrial development. The partnerships are intended to create a favourable ecosystem for advanced industrial technologies and sustainable manufacturing, particularly among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). EESL's roadmap focuses on reducing operational and maintenance costs, improving productivity and competitiveness, generating employment, using energy and water resources more efficiently, and encouraging cleaner production. EESL, which has supported national programmes including the LED Street Lighting Programme and UJALA, has identified Telangana and the Hyderabad metropolitan region as important areas for introducing globally proven technologies. Telangana has more than 2.6 mn MSME units and a large employment base, making technology adoption across the sector significant for productivity, competitiveness, employment generation and environmental sustainability. The summit was addressed by officials and industry representatives including KC Panigrahy, Milind Deore, Aravind Talan, Tejpreet Singh Chopra and Ravi Chandran Purushothaman. Talan also presented EESL's assessment of how its energy-efficiency programmes could affect economic and environmental sustainability.
