Maharashtra government likely to approve projects worth Rs 547 billion

The state government of Maharashtra is expected to clear most projects this year, keeping in mind the 2019 state and general elections. The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) will approach the state government for getting the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3-A cleared.

According to reports, the Rs 547.77-billion MUTP 3-A may be approved in a week’s time, because a meeting with the finance department secretary and urban development department secretary is going to take place soon. After receiving clearance from the state government, it will not take much time to get the Railway Board’s approval. The blueprints of the station design and railway line survey are reportedly completed and tenders can be floated anytime. As reported, following the Railway Board’s approval, the proposal will be cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.

Officials are awaiting the state government’s approval on a detailed project report of the MUTP 3-A that was sent at the end of April 2018. According to reports, railway minister Piyush Goyal had visited Mumbai several times and had discussions about the MUTP 3-A. The project was also deliberated upon with the state government and railway officials.

The proposed project is expected to decrease traffic in Panvel, Kalyan, Virar, Borivali and Bandra. The suburban stations will be improved as part of he project, and a fast elevated corridor has been planned in the project between Panvel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on the harbour line.
