AMC Plans Rs 4.7bn Unified Mobility System For Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is set to roll out a citywide unified mobility system at an estimated cost of Rs 4.7 billion, aimed at integrating ticketing and travel information across public transport modes.

The system, expected to be implemented within a year, will be supported by a mobile application that allows passengers to buy tickets by scanning QR codes and access detailed route and destination information. Standing committee chairman Devang Dani said the platform will include a unified journey planner, with the selected vendor responsible for implementation as well as operations and maintenance for 12 years. Hardware and software upgrades will be carried out every five years, with costs built into the tender.

The new system is intended to build on earlier initiatives such as Janmitra cards, which offered a single card for Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service and Bus Rapid Transit System Ahmedabad services. Over time, the platform is expected to integrate with Metro services, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation and the proposed high-speed bullet train, Dani said.

Separately, the civic body said it has intensified measures to ease traffic congestion across the city. Between April 1 and December 15, encroachments including 11,457 street carts, boards, banners and hoardings were removed. During the same period, 18,488 illegally parked vehicles were locked and 18,175 vehicles were fined.

AMC said administrative charges totalling Rs 11.02 million were recovered during the drive, as part of efforts to improve road discipline and traffic flow in Ahmedabad.
