GMDA nears completion of SPR Sewerage Network

The GMDA has recently obtained approval for the revised estimate to lay the sewer lines in these sectors. The project, costing Rs 325 million, aims to connect these missing links and enable proper sewage disposal. The tender process is set to commence soon, and the entire project is expected to conclude within three months. Once finished, the Behrampur Sewage Treatment Plant will handle all sewage discharge from these areas.

This initiative stems from a 2011 proposal by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to install master sewer lines in these sectors, with a total budget of Rs 1,165 million. The work was carried out in two phases, covering sectors 58 to 67 initially. Although most of the work is complete, there remains a 405-meter section pending at Vatika Chowk. In the second phase, covering sectors 68 to 76, the project was initially estimated at Rs 273.1 million in 2018 and later transferred to GMDA from HSVP.

However, the completion of this vital infrastructure has faced setbacks, including the recall of the tender by GMDA four times due to administrative reasons. Despite these challenges, officials are optimistic about resolving the pending issues and ensuring the completion of the project within a year after the work is allotted.

While progress has been made in connecting the sewage line with the Behrampur Sewage Treatment Plant, some concerns remain among residents, especially those residing along the yet-to-be-developed Necklace road. Residents, represented by Neehar Ranjan, the RWA president of Astaire Gardens, emphasise the importance of clear timelines and swift resolution of sewage and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) concerns. The completion of these essential infrastructural elements is eagerly anticipated by the community, which has been waiting for their implementation for several years.
