New Delhi's Shivaji Stadium bus terminus set for green revamp

"In the fiscal year 2018-19, the civic body drafted a comprehensive project report for the initial redevelopment of the bus terminal. However, no viable tenders were received. Consequently, we decided to reissue tenders, incorporating additional features of international standards. The notice inviting tenders for the project is presently under review," stated NDMC Vice-Chairman Satish Upadhyay.

He further explained that finalising the quotation would take a minimum of three to four months, extending the overall process. The project envisions transforming the bus terminus into modern and eco-friendly green buildings, utilising materials like fly ash bricks. Originally estimated at Rs 390 million, the project's cost has risen to Rs 570 million in the revised plan.

The innovative design incorporates thick glasses to maximise natural light and reduce energy consumption. Additionally, the complex will feature a dual distribution system for supplying potable and treated water separately, a sewage treatment plant, solar panels, and other advanced facilities, aligning with NDMC's goal to transition entirely to green energy by 2025.

To accommodate 113 vehicles, the project will entail the construction of two basements, with provisions for multiple e-charging stations in the first basement. The ground floor will be optimised for efficient bus movement, and designated pick-and-drop points for various modes of transport, including auto-rickshaws and cabs, will be established. A dedicated taxi service drop-off zone will enhance the pick and drop services, and the facility will feature pedestrian walkways and seating areas for visitors.
