Intellect Launches eMACH.ai Pilot in South African Banks

Intellect Design Arena, a global leader in enterprise-grade financial technology, has launched pilot implementations of its next-generation platform, eMACH.ai, for leading South African banks. This marks a major milestone in the transformation of South Africa’s wholesale banking infrastructure and aligns directly with the country’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 and broader digital economy agenda.

Developed by over 1,200 research engineers and already deployed by more than 500 banks worldwide, eMACH.ai offers modular, AI-enabled architecture that allows banks to streamline operations, reduce costs, and serve both corporate and public-sector clients more effectively.

Key platform features include:
  • Composable Microservices: Modular design ensures agility and scalability.
  • Advanced AI Capabilities: Real-time decision-making and automation integrated across functions.
  • Intelligent Infrastructure: Delivers over 20 per cent cost savings across transaction banking, cash management, trade, and payments.
  • Global Experience, Local Impact: Present in 60+ countries and expanding across Africa.

Aligned with South Africa’s NDP 2030 and Digital Economy Master Plan, eMACH.ai is positioned to enable:
  • Modernisation of public sector services (e.g. Eskom collections, school fee digitisation, and municipal payments),
  • Embedded financial services for infrastructure projects (e.g. smart meters),
  • Frictionless citizen payments in cash-heavy sectors,
  • Innovation through low-code, AI-enabled platforms for local skills development.

Intellect’s expansion into South Africa reflects its long-term commitment to the region, supporting regulatory needs and national-scale transformation. Arun Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Intellect, noted, “South Africa is not just another market — it is a mission. With our First Principles and Design Thinking approach, eMACH.ai modernises banking infrastructure while advancing financial inclusion and sealing revenue leakages.”

Manish Maakan, CEO of Intellect Wholesale Banking, added, “With pilots now live, we are co-creating a digital, resilient and inclusive banking ecosystem. By combining intelligent automation with deep domain expertise, we’re unlocking liquidity, accelerating transaction cycles, and delivering double-digit efficiency gains.”

No glass boxes!

India is moving away from the ‘glass box’ syndrome, all-glass façades that were widely used in commercial buildings in the last two decades but came at a significant environmental cost given the country’s predominantly hot and humid climate. Poor thermal performance, excessive heat gain and dependency on mechanical cooling systems made buildings with glass façades energy guzzlers and significantly increased their carbon footprint. That said, it’s important to be aware that “glass is not the enemy,” points out Heena Bhargava, Architect, Architecture Discipline. “How it ..

Why do pavements fail?

India’s highways continue to expand at a healthy pace. But conversations on the surface quality of highways are growing louder because major deficiencies and black spots continue to be identified, and they are cause for concern.“Road surface roughness causes vehicle vibrations that, in turn, can affect the performance of drivers,” explains Dr V K Gahlot, Road Safety Auditor, Centre for Research and Sustainable Development (CfRSD). “Continuous exposure may induce fatigue, a contributory factor to road accidents. Road surface roughness also affects the vehicle operating cost...
