MSETCL Upgrades Padgha-Pal Line to Boost Supply

The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) is undertaking capacity augmentation of the 220 kV Padgha-Pal transmission line to strengthen power supply across Kalyan, Dombivli and adjoining areas. The work is being executed by the Dombivli Extra High Voltage Operation and Maintenance Department and began on July 26, with scheduled completion on August 26. Officials said the project forms part of broader measures to enhance transmission capacity and network resilience in the region. The schedule has been planned to limit disruption during peak demand periods.

Electricity supply to Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, Dombivli city and surrounding rural areas will be maintained through alternative arrangements using the 220 kV Padgha-Jambhul transmission line, MSETCL's deputy chief public relations officer Ajit Igatpurikar said. The agency indicated that the alternate arrangement is designed to keep critical feeders operational while work is carried out on the Padgha-Pal corridor. System operators will monitor load flows and manage switching to minimise disruption. Control room teams will remain on alert throughout the works.

MSETCL warned that any technical fault in the alternate line during the work period could lead to temporary outages or regulated power supply, including load shedding, in some areas. Distribution companies have been advised to prepare contingency plans and inform consumers about potential short interruptions. Residents were asked to cooperate as teams carry out the works. Emergency response arrangements have been reviewed with local utilities.

Officials appealed for cooperation and said the project would significantly improve reliability, efficiency and uninterrupted power supply across the region in the long term. Once complete, the upgraded corridor is expected to reduce bottlenecks and allow better load distribution during peak hours. MSETCL said routine tests and safety checks will follow commissioning to ensure sustained performance. Authorities will review operational data to guide further improvements.
