Organic Recycling Systems Secures Fifth BPCL CBG Contract

Organic Recycling Systems, through its wholly owned subsidiary Solapur Bioenergy Systems, has secured its fifth contract from Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) for an organic municipal solid waste-based compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Bhilai in Chhattisgarh. The latest award takes the cumulative value of the subsidiary’s BPCL order book to Rs. 3.5-5 bn, according to the company.

The contract covers Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operation and Maintenance (EPCOM) activities for the facility. The scope includes project management, licensing, basic and detailed engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication, transportation, installation, testing, statutory approvals, commissioning and performance guarantee testing.

The project is expected to process organic municipal solid waste and convert it into compressed biogas. It will involve an integrated approach combining process technology, plant execution and operations and maintenance services, strengthening Solapur Bioenergy Systems’ position in waste-to-energy infrastructure development.

Organic Recycling Systems said the facility would support the conversion of urban waste into an energy resource while contributing to resource recovery and scientific waste management. The company also linked the project to India’s broader objectives of expanding renewable energy use, developing a circular economy and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels.

The company’s bioenergy business includes project development, technology licensing, CBG and organic manure products, environmental consulting, and troubleshooting and operations and maintenance services for CBG and waste-processing facilities. Organic Recycling Systems was established in 2008 and operates across the waste-management value chain, with engineering and technology collaborations involving institutions including IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and the University of Birmingham. The company said the new contract would further support its expansion in bioenergy and waste valorisation infrastructure across India.
