PM Modi To Lay Foundation For Silchar-Guwahati Corridor In March

Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the prime minister will lay the foundation stone for the Silchar?Guwahati corridor in March. The announcement came as part of a broader statement on the state government's infrastructure priorities. The corridor is envisaged as a strategic high?speed route linking southern Assam with the state capital. It is expected to improve regional connectivity and to facilitate economic activity.

It will integrate projects such as the Guwahati Ring Road, the Kurua?Narengi bridge and the Kaziranga corridor to create a cohesive network. State officials have linked these projects to decongesting urban areas and to improving access to protected tourist sites. The chief minister indicated that coordinated implementation would accelerate benefits to commerce and commuters.

Officials said preparatory work will address land acquisition, environmental clearances and design finalisation to ensure timely execution. The state administration plans to synchronise efforts with central agencies to streamline approvals and to mobilise resources. Attention will be given to engineering solutions for flood?prone stretches and to minimising disruption to local communities during construction.

The announcement is expected to strengthen logistical links across Assam and to support investment in manufacturing and services. Improved road corridors are likely to reduce travel times between key economic centres and to enhance supply chain efficiency. The planned foundation stone ceremony is also portrayed as a signal of central attention to regional development and to infrastructure modernisation.

State authorities plan to monitor project milestones and to publish progress updates to maintain transparency. Enhanced connectivity is anticipated to support tourism to sites such as Kaziranga and to provide better access for local producers to larger markets. Stakeholders are expected to watch the implementation closely as the work progresses following the ceremonial start.
