President Murmu Urges Focus on Critical Minerals for Green Shift

President Droupadi Murmu has emphasised the need for India to increase its focus on securing and utilising critical minerals essential for the green energy transition. Speaking at a recent event, she underscored the pivotal role of these minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, in advancing renewable energy technologies and electric mobility.

Murmu noted that as India strives to meet its ambitious climate goals and reduce its carbon footprint, access to critical minerals will be crucial in building infrastructure for clean energy, including solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicle batteries. She stressed that India must invest in research, development, and exploration to ensure a stable supply of these minerals.

The President also called for international cooperation and strategic partnerships with countries rich in these resources. She mentioned that the global competition for critical minerals is intensifying, and India must be proactive in securing its interests while promoting sustainable mining practices.

Murmu's call to action aligns with the government's broader initiatives to accelerate the green transition, including policies aimed at boosting renewable energy production and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. As India continues to advance its sustainability agenda, critical minerals are set to play a foundational role in driving the nation's future energy infrastructure.

Her address highlighted the pressing need for a comprehensive strategy that integrates mineral acquisition with environmental stewardship and economic growth.
