Puducherry Seeks Central Funds to Upgrade Sports Facilities

The Government of Puducherry has submitted a proposal to the Centre seeking financial support for the development of sports infrastructure across all 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory, according to home minister A. Namassivayam.

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for a cricket tournament organised by the BJP Yuva Morcha to mark the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Namassivayam said the AINRC–BJP government has taken several steps to improve the sporting ecosystem in Puducherry. As part of these efforts, the government has separated the Youth Affairs and Sports portfolio from the Education Department to give sharper focus to sports development.

He said the Centre has been actively supporting the Union Territory’s sports initiatives by sanctioning funds, including for the construction of multi-purpose sports stadiums in Puducherry and Karaikal. The government is hopeful of securing additional funding to implement the proposed upgrades to sports infrastructure in all Assembly constituencies.

Also speaking at the event, BJP leader K. Annamalai urged young party workers to contribute with dedication and sincerity, stressing that the party recognises and rewards commitment and hard work among the youth.

Annamalai distributed prizes to the winners of the cricket competition. The event was attended by BJP president V. P. Ramalingam, legislators and senior party leaders.
