Rwanda Invites Indian Investors To Explore Critical Sectors

Rwanda sought to deepen economic and investment ties with India at an investment and tourism opportunities event hosted by the High Commission of Rwanda in India in Bengaluru on August 28, 2026. The event was organised by High Commissioner Jacqueline Mukangira together with the Honourable Suresh Mohan, honorary consul, and drew representatives from India's business, government, healthcare, banking, hospitality, aviation and entertainment sectors. Senior industry figures and state officials attended to examine opportunities across multiple sectors.

The High Commissioner outlined Rwanda's transformation and described the country as intent on attracting international investment, highlighting opportunities in healthcare, tourism, manufacturing and film production. Healthcare was identified as an area for collaboration as Rwanda seeks to expand infrastructure and services that Indian companies could support with expertise, technology and operational experience. Tourism and creative industries were presented as avenues for film production and visual projects, with Rwanda promoted as a location offering green landscapes, volcanic mountains, lakes and gorilla tourism.

Critical minerals emerged as a strategic priority, with emphasis on deposits of tin, tungsten and tantalum, referred to as the three Ts and used in electronics, manufacturing, aerospace and defence. Tin is important for electronic solder, tungsten finds application in cutting tools and aerospace components, and tantalum is used in electronic capacitors. Mineral revenues increased from approximately $373 million (mn) in 2017 to $1.75 billion (bn) in 2024, and Rwanda is seeking greater domestic processing capacity while exploring lithium, beryllium and rare earth bearing minerals associated with the Karagwe-Ankole Belt.

The Bengaluru meeting followed the first India-Rwanda Joint Trade Committee meeting in New Delhi on July 30 and 31, 2026, and organisers described potential cooperation ranging from geological mapping to responsible development of mineral resources. Indian initiatives to secure supply chains, including a national critical minerals mission and state entities focused on overseas assets, were noted as complementary to Rwanda's objectives. Presenters framed Rwanda as a partner for long term investment across mining, healthcare, hospitality and creative industries, offering Indian companies a chance to diversify supply chains and establish value added processing.
