Tripura Unveils Budget for 2024-25 Fiscal Year

Tripura's Finance Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, unveiled a robust budget of Rs 27,804.67 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, emphasizing infrastructure development to boost job creation in the northeastern state. Roy allocated Rs 6,633.80 crore for capital expenditure and Rs 1,721.94 crore specifically for the agriculture sector, aiming to bolster economic growth and stability.

Highlighting the state's economic performance, Roy stated, "During 2022-23, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew at around 8.89 per cent, surpassing the national level growth rate of 7.20 per cent. For the upcoming fiscal year, we estimate a GSDP growth of 8.47 per cent." This optimistic outlook underscores Tripura's resilience and potential for sustained development.

A significant portion of the budget, amounting to Rs 2,000 crore, has been allocated for road infrastructure projects across all 60 assembly constituencies over the next four years. Additionally, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will receive Rs 698.68 crore, with 39.93 per cent of the total development allocation dedicated to the welfare of indigenous communities.

In a bid to enhance public amenities, the state plans to establish 85 'pink toilets' at various locations, catering to the hygiene needs of women and children, with an allocated budget of Rs 7.51 crore.

Addressing concerns about the state's debt burden, Roy assured that it remains under control, despite an increase from Rs 12,902 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 21,687 crore presently. This measured approach reflects the government's commitment to fiscal prudence and long-term financial stability.

Echoing Roy's sentiments, Chief Minister Manik Saha affirmed the budget's inclusive nature, stating, "This budget is aimed at building 'Ek-Tripura, Srestha Tripura, Unnata-Tripura' (One Tripura, Best Tripura, Progressive Tripura). It highlights the state government's commitment to the overall development of all sections of society. It will surely put Tripura on a faster growth trajectory."

The unveiled budget signals Tripura's determination to harness its potential and foster comprehensive development, setting a promising course for the state's future prosperity.
