Union Cabinet Approves 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) on December 6, 2024. Additionally, one existing Kendriya Vidyalaya will be expanded.

This initiative is expected to provide affordable, high-quality education to over 82,000 students nationwide. The total estimated cost for setting up these new KVs and expanding the existing one is Rs 58.72 billion, to be allocated over eight years starting from 2025-26.

Currently, there are 1,256 operational Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three international branches in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, serving 13.56 lakh students.

The Union Cabinet has also approved the construction of the 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli corridor under Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV expansion. The corridor, which includes 21 elevated stations, will enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana.

This project, an extension of the Shaheed Sthal-Rithala Red Line, will improve access to areas such as Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini in northwest Delhi. The project, with a completion cost of Rs 62.3 billion, is scheduled to be finished within four years of its sanction.
