Uttar Pradesh e-bus plant to launch in 12-13 months

Chairman Dheeraj Hinduja announced that Ashok Leyland's Uttar Pradesh plant would primarily focus on manufacturing electric buses, with operations slated to commence in 12-13 months. He stated that the UP plant would prioritise the production of electric buses, aiming for the plant's operational readiness within the mentioned timeframe.

Hinduja elaborated on the Uttar Pradesh market, expressing the government's keen interest in expanding electric vehicle (EV) buses within the state. He expressed confidence in their ability to provide better service by being present in the region.

Additionally, Hinduja mentioned that this plant would mark the company's initial venture into producing more EVs than internal combustion engine (ICE) products.

Regarding the plant's capacity, Hinduja indicated it would initially be a small-scale facility capable of producing 2,500 buses, with the potential to ramp up to 5,000 buses. He expressed assurance that meeting market demands wouldn't be an issue.

The company's net profit witnessed a significant increase of 16.73 percent to Rs 9.33 billion during the March quarter of FY24, driven by robust demand across its product lines in the light and medium commercial vehicle (L&MCV) segments.
