Uttarakhand Approves Rs 2.27 bn For Kumbh And Infrastructure

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial sanctions totalling Rs 2.27 bn for infrastructure development ahead of Kumbh Mela 2027, covering works in Haridwar and Dehradun as well as welfare measures for families of ex-servicemen. The approvals were announced in an official government statement.

The largest allocations are for Kumbh Mela-related works under the Irrigation Department, with Rs 981.8 mn sanctioned for construction of ghats and an Astha Path on the left bank of the Ganga in the Gaurishankar area downstream of Chandi Ghat and Rs 1.1591 bn for similar works on the right bank in the Bairagi Camp area. The projects are intended to strengthen infrastructure and improve facilities for pilgrims during the festival.

The cabinet approved Rs 119.5 mn for utility shifting and relocation of water supply lines linked to widening the one point six five km New Cantt Road in Dehradun from two lanes to three lanes. In Haridwar district the government released a first instalment of Rs 9.659 mn against a total approved cost of Rs 24.1 mn for construction of the administrative building of the Sultanpur police outpost.

A sum of Rs 3.684 mn was approved from the Kargil Shaheed Parivar Chief Minister Assistance Fund for payment of scholarships to dependent students of ex-servicemen pursuing engineering, medical and PhD courses to support higher education for children of those families. The cabinet also sanctioned an increase in dearness relief to 60 per cent per month for civil and family pensioners of public bodies and undertakings with effect from January one, 2026.

The official statement said the measures aim to strengthen public infrastructure, improve connectivity and support Kumbh-related development works while extending welfare benefits to pensioners and families of ex-servicemen. Departments have been instructed to coordinate implementation and ensure timely completion of approved works before the event.
