Work on India's first fully private Greenfield airport in Karaikal in Puducherry by Super Airport Infrastructure India is scheduled to commence in May 2013. The private airport has been proposed on about 526 acre and involves construction of a 1.8-km runway and a 250 peak hour passenger capacity terminal. The airport will initially attract about 550 inbound and outbound passengers daily.
