West Bengal seeks night flights at Bagdogra airport

In the wake of the nod from Air Force and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to extend flight landing at Bagdogra airport to 10 pm, the West Bengal government will send a letter to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air India authorities, urging them to operate two-way Air India flights between Bagdogra and the city. Plans of setting up a separate police station and pre-paid taxi booths are also on the anvil.

The State government will send a letter to the ministry of civil aviation and Air India authorities with a proposal to operate two-way Air India flights from Bagdogra to Kolkata following the clearance from the Air force and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last July 1 extending night landing timings upto 10 pm.

A plan has also been mulled to set up a separate police station and pre-paid taxi booths for Bagdogra airport similar to NSCBI airport police station in Kolkata. Sources at Writers' Buildings said that quite a few private airlines have shown interest in operating flights to the Himalayan range.
