Delhi Airport to Reopen Runway RW 10/28 on September 16

Delhi International Airport (DIAL) is set to reopen runway RW 10/28 for operations from September 16, following the completion of upgradation works, according to a source.

The runway had been shut since June 15 for a three-month upgrade after congestion-related delays in May. The project included upgrading the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to make RW 10/28 CAT III compliant, enabling safe operations even during low-visibility conditions such as dense fog.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), India’s busiest airport, manages around 1,450 daily flight movements. It operates four runways—RW 09/27, RW 11R/29L, RW 11L/29R, and RW 10/28—along with two active terminals, T1 and T3. Terminal 2 remains closed for maintenance.

The reopening of RW 10/28 is expected to ease air traffic management at IGIA, improving efficiency ahead of the peak travel season.
