Raja Seeks Expanded Air Connectivity With Airlines

Raja opened discussions with domestic and regional airlines to seek expanded air connectivity to the state. The minister outlined the case for enhanced services on existing routes and for consideration of new destinations that would improve regional links. The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transport ties and support wider development objectives.

During the meetings Raja urged carriers to study passenger demand patterns and to consider schedule adjustments that would enhance convenience for travellers and support tourism. He emphasised that improved air services could reduce travel time, enable faster movement of goods and catalyse investment in remote areas. Officials framed the proposals as mutually beneficial and highlighted the importance of commercially viable operations.

The government offered to coordinate with airport authorities to address ground infrastructure and procedural bottlenecks and to explore facilitation measures within existing regulatory frameworks. Raja recommended close coordination on slot allocation, ground handling and timely regulatory clearances to ensure sustainable services. He stressed the need for transparent dialogue between carriers and state agencies to develop workable service plans.

Airlines agreed to examine feasibility studies and to respond with proposals and capacity assessments in due course while the state vowed to maintain engagement and to expedite follow up actions. Stakeholders were asked to continue consultations to align schedules with demand and to explore phased service introductions. Authorities expect that enhanced connectivity will expand economic opportunities, improve access to essential services and strengthen regional integration.

Follow up meetings were planned to review progress and to assess carrier responses, with officials proposing periodic reviews to monitor service performance and passenger uptake. The minister underscored that any expansion should prioritise safety, affordability and regularity to deliver enduring benefits for communities. Engagement with tourism boards, local businesses and civil society groups was envisaged to ensure that service planning responded to real demand and supported inclusive growth.
