Thiruvananthapuram airport boosts winter flights by 22 per cent

The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has announced a 22 per cent increase in flight operations, taking its weekly air traffic movements to 732 from 600. The expanded schedule, part of the winter timetable, came into effect on Sunday and will run until 28 March 2026.

Driven by growing passenger demand, particularly to metro cities and international destinations, the airport will witness a sharp rise in domestic operations, with several new routes introduced and existing ones expanded.

New domestic services to Navi Mumbai, Mangaluru, and Tiruchirapalli are set to begin shortly, while additional flights will be added to major cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, and Kannur.

Weekly domestic air traffic movements will increase from 300 to 406, marking a 35 per cent rise. Bengaluru will top the list with 92 flights per week, followed by Delhi (84) and Mumbai (70). Chennai will have 42 weekly services, Hyderabad and Navi Mumbai 28 each, Kochi 26, Tiruchirapalli 12, Kannur 10, Pune 8, and Mangaluru 6.

International flight operations will also expand, with weekly movements rising from 300 to 326, reflecting a 9 per cent increase. The enhanced network will further strengthen Thiruvananthapuram’s position as a key aviation hub for Gulf-bound expatriates and tourists.

The airport will now operate 66 weekly flights to Abu Dhabi, 56 to Sharjah, and 28 to Dammam. There will be 24 services each to Kuwait and Malé, and 22 each to Dubai, Muscat, and Kuala Lumpur. Other key routes include Doha (20 flights), Singapore (14), Bahrain (10), Colombo (8), Riyadh (6), and Hanimaadhoo (4).

The winter schedule, which runs until March 2026, is expected to be one of the busiest operational phases for the airport, reflecting strong post-pandemic recovery and the growing demand for both business and leisure travel.
