The Kaladan Multi-modal Transit and India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway - linking India with Myanmar and further to Southeast Asia is expected to be completed by 2016. Built on the grounds of potential growth for trade and investment in the region, the Kaladan Project, signed in 2008, will connect Kolkata to Sittwe Port in Myanmar and further to Mizoram by river and road. Also, the trilateral highway, signed in April 2002, will run from Moreh in Manipur to Mae Sot in Thailand via Myanmar.
