Pune's civic body to cancel PPP mode road development

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is now planning to cancel the proposed public-private partnership (PPP) initiative for the city road development. The PPP initiative ran into trouble as the tenders for the project raised doubts of financial irregularities.

Now the Pune civic body is looking for alternative ways to implement road projects. The civic administration had decided to adopt the PPP initiative owing to shortage of funds for development. The administration had floated tenders for 45 proposed roads.

A civic officer said that the PPP initiative ran into trouble as the tenders for the project raised doubts of financial irregularities. The tenders are filed by selected contractors who quote 15-20 per cent more than the estimated project cost. This will lead to financial loss to the civic exchequer and the civic administration is not positive about the initiative.
