BMC to construct Flyover over goregaon creek after 31 years of waiting

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai has decided to build a flyover that will connect the Andheri and Goregaon neighborhoods. The local government has created an action plan and requested bids for the building. Since it would cut travel time in half, residents have long called for a link road to connect the two areas.

Deliberations to build a bridge connecting Andheri and Goregaon began more than 30 years ago. A 36.6-meter bridge was proposed in the BMC's 1991 development plan, and a road connecting Andheri Lokhandwala to Millat Nagar Nursery was built under this project decades ago.

The proposed bridge across Goregaon Creek will be 500 meters long and four lanes wide. The bridge will be made of steel, will use cable-based technology, and will be illuminated.

The project is expected to cost almost more than Rs. 4 billion and will take four years to complete.

The bridge will run from Goregaon's Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar to the junction of BEST Colony Road and Maulana Ziauddin Bukhari Road. It will also help to reduce traffic on the Western Express Highway and the New Link Road, as well as improve connectivity in Oshiwara, Jogeshwari, and Andheri East.

Previously, another tender was issued for the bridge's construction. However, after the authorities decided to construct it out of stainless steel, a new tender has been issued. BMC anticipates that using stainless steel will significantly reduce maintenance costs.

The BMC will soon appoint a consultant for the project and start the procedures for obtaining approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority and the Environment Department (MCZMA). Bhagat Singh Nagar's 350 slum residents will need to relocate as part of the project.
