Centre Prioritises National Highway Expansion In Kerala

The BJP state chief said the Modi government at the Centre has prioritised the expansion and modernisation of national highways in Kerala to improve connectivity and mobility across the state. He noted that the initiative aims to decongest urban corridors, strengthen inter?district links and enhance freight movement to support trade and commerce. The central focus on highway modernisation is being presented as a complement to other infrastructure programmes intended to foster balanced regional development.

He outlined that better highways would boost tourism and industry by shortening travel times and improving access to markets, and that improved last?mile connectivity would benefit farmers, small businesses and supply chains. Integration with ports and airports was described as a priority to create efficient multimodal corridors, while technical assistance and funding from central schemes would support project delivery. Emphasis was placed on highways serving as catalysts for economic activity rather than merely transport arteries.

The party leader urged the state administration to facilitate coordination with central agencies, expedite land clearances and streamline approvals to ensure projects progress without undue delay. He encouraged the adoption of modern construction techniques, rigorous quality control and transparent procurement to deliver durable assets. The need for environmental safeguards, fair rehabilitation and adequate maintenance arrangements was also underlined to secure long?term benefits.

The central push is said to aim at accelerating ongoing works and removing bottlenecks that have slowed past projects, with anticipated gains in employment and regional connectivity during construction and beyond. Measures to improve road safety through better design, signage and drainage were highlighted as integral elements of modernisation. The BJP state chief expressed confidence that an enhanced national highway network would catalyse growth and improve daily mobility for people across Kerala.
