Conrad Inaugurates Hubert Rosario Road in West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the newly constructed Hubert Rosario Road in Spein, Mookaswan, located in the West Jaintia Hills district. The 1.13-kilometre approach road, leading to the Hubert Acupressure Centre, was built at a cost of Rs 10.93 million.

During the inauguration, the chief minister underscored the human impact of infrastructure projects, stating that while the road may be a Rs 10.93 million project in terms of cost, its value lies in how it affects lives—particularly those in pain, those seeking healing, and the sisters providing care at the centre.

He highlighted the state's focus on infrastructure development, pointing out that while only Rs. 659 crore worth of road projects were sanctioned between 1991 and 2018, over Rs. 4,000 crore has been approved in the past seven years. Nearly 70% of roads sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Meghalaya have been completed during this period.

He also emphasised the government’s increasing investment in the healthcare sector, noting that over 8% of the state's annual budget—more than Rs. 1,000 crore—is now allocated to healthcare. The government is working to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure while also partnering with church-run and non-profit hospitals.

The chief minister announced that rural health centres like the Hubert Acupressure Centre would be considered for inclusion in upcoming infrastructure grant schemes. Plans are also in place to support traditional healing systems by integrating indigenous knowledge into the formal healthcare system.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who was also present, praised the unity and cooperative spirit of the Mookaswan community. He expressed pride in his association with the area and commended the sisters of the acupressure centre for their dedication to healthcare.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of the Shillong Diocese, Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar of the Jowai Diocese, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, senior Public Works Department officials, and members of the local administration.
