Delhi–Gurugram Elevated Corridor DPR Work Begins

Relief may soon be on the way for Delhi–Gurugram commuters, with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) initiating paperwork for a 20-kilometre, high-speed, signal-free elevated corridor connecting South Delhi to the Gurugram–Faridabad Road via Mahipalpur.
Weeks after first announcing the plan, MoRTH has floated tenders for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor that will link AIIMS with the Mahipalpur Bypass and extend it to the Gurugram–Faridabad Road. An earlier tender floated in May–June was scrapped, and a revised version with updated terms has now been issued.
The DPR will follow a feasibility study, which will determine the project’s technical and economic viability. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), authorised to execute the project, may terminate the contract if the corridor is deemed unfeasible at the feasibility stage.
According to official documents, the DPR will include alignment design, pavement structure, intersection planning, traffic management, safety audits, and environmental and social impact assessments, along with project cost estimates. The feasibility study will focus on traffic surveys, axle load data, alignment options, lane configuration, and preliminary topographical analysis.
The deadline for bid submission is 15 October, and the entire DPR preparation is expected to be completed within nine months.
The project, first proposed earlier this year after Rekha Gupta took charge as Chief Minister of Delhi, has been backed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who confirmed that NHAI will oversee its implementation.
Officials clarified that these preparatory stages are pre-construction processes, and civil work will begin only after the DPR is approved and all statutory clearances are obtained.
The Rs 25 billion project is part of a broader strategy to decongest the National Capital Region, improve connectivity, and reduce travel time across Delhi and its adjoining areas. The proposed corridor aims to deliver faster, seamless travel between AIIMS and Gurugram, cutting the current 50–90 minute commute to a fraction of that time.
The distance between AIIMS and Gurugram, currently about 32 kilometres via Mahipalpur, will be significantly shortened once the elevated road becomes operational.
The initiative follows recent infrastructure upgrades, including the inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), which added nearly 80 kilometres of national highway capacity across Delhi–NCR, further improving mobility and reducing congestion.
