GHMC to Expand Shamshabad, Rajendranagar Roads to Ease Traffic

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expediting the expansion of two major roads in Shamshabad and Rajendranagar to address increasing traffic congestion in the southern suburbs of Hyderabad. The projects had been pending for a long period as rapid construction of multi-storey buildings increased population and vehicular density in the areas.

The civic body will acquire 23,496 square yards of land for the two routes. GHMC has begun the required land acquisition process and issued notifications for the proposed road works. The developments are intended to provide additional road capacity in areas where existing routes are facing sustained pressure.

One of the proposed corridors will run from the Gollapalli NH-44 junction in Shamshabad mandal to Pedda Golkonda through the Outer Ring Road (ORR) service road. The route will be developed as a 100-foot road, with the acquisition process now under way for the land needed for its construction.

The second project is identified as Corridor No. 19 in Rajendranagar mandal. It will involve widening a major road to a 100-foot width and connect the ORR service road with Chevella Road through Bandlaguda Jagir and Kismatpur.

Residents in the suburban areas have been dealing with severe traffic congestion while the road expansion works remained pending. Once the two roads are constructed and opened to traffic, vehicles travelling from the ORR to different parts of Hyderabad are likely to have alternative routes. The projects are therefore expected to improve connectivity between the rapidly developing suburban localities and the wider city road network.
