India Plans Rs50 bn Northeast Push To Strengthen Border Infrastructure

The programme also covers hospital upgrades and other health infrastructure alongside measures to improve village access to markets and services. Education features prominently with around 70 school infrastructure projects to be built or upgraded, which the government says will benefit about 292,000 students through facilities delivered with central support. The school works include classroom construction, sanitation and basic utilities to raise learning capacity in underserved locations. Work on school infrastructure is to include accommodation for staff and connectivity improvements where required. Upgrades are to be aligned with local education plans and capacity building.

Funds are to be allocated in the FY27 budget with implementing agencies to stagger projects over the financial year, according to the officials. The initiative forms part of a broader push by New Delhi to step up development along the frontier and to strengthen civilian infrastructure that supports strategic resilience. Authorities will monitor progress through central schemes and periodic reviews to ensure delivery against planned targets. States will be invited to submit implementation schedules and progress updates.
