Key Highway Projects Progress To Ease Pune Traffic Congestion

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways, and several major projects have been sanctioned in the Pune Metropolitan Region to address traffic bottlenecks. The integrated structures at Chandani Chowk on NH-48 were completed in March 2024. Ongoing works include a six-lane flyover at Katraj Junction on NH-548DD, due for completion in June 2026; concreting of service and slip roads along 41 km of the Pune–Satara section of NH-48, targeted for June 2027; and elevated corridors from Nashik Phata to Khed along 30 km of NH-60, expected by March 2030.

NHAI has initiated feasibility studies for an elevated corridor from Ravet to Narhe on NH-48. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed with the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation for potential elevated corridors or capacity enhancement across the Pune–Shirur section of NH-753F, the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikarpur stretch of NH-548D and the Hadapsar–Yavat section of NH-65, subject to technical feasibility.

To expedite progress and resolve outstanding issues, regular coordination meetings are being held among NHAI, the Pune Municipal Corporation, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority and other state and central agencies.

This information was provided by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
