The Himachal Pradesh government, in a move to combat escalating traffic congestion and promote eco-friendly commuting, has unveiled plans for the Shimla ropeway project, which is set to become the longest urban ropeway in India. Construction is slated to commence in October 2024 with the first phase expected to be completed within two and a half years and the entire project in five years. With a cost estimated at Rs 15.55 billion, the ropeway is set to initially feature 220 cabins, each accommodating 8-10 persons and this capacity is projected to increase to 660 over time.
