Mangaluru Smart Road Plan Links Ladyhill to Kottara

The Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has planned a Rs. 30 mn smart-road project linking Ladyhill with Kottara Junction. The proposal includes pedestrian pathways on both sides of the corridor and streetscape improvements, MUDA chairman Santhosh Kumar Shetty announced at a press conference, according to Prajavani.

A detailed project report is expected to be prepared within two months, after which the authority plans to invite tenders. MUDA has not specified the road length, construction schedule or design standards, but said the project would improve pedestrian access and the appearance of the route.

The proposal is part of wider urban-development plans. MUDA is considering a market complex on 88 cents of land at Urwa Store, comprising a basement and an above-ground semi-permanent structure. The facility could offer space at lower rents to information technology, biotechnology and corporate enterprises, while its detailed report is still under preparation.

The authority also reported progress on residential layouts. Kunjathbail has 208 sites, of which 32 have been allotted, and applications have been invited for the remaining sites by December 28, subject to payment of 10 per cent of the site amount. Civil works valued at Rs. 159.8 mn are under way at the 709-site Chelyaru layout, while the Konaje layout remains before the court.

MUDA plans parks at Prem Nagar in New Hosabettu Ward 8 and near the Harekal dam, along with development of nine lakes. Estimated costs include Rs. 20 mn for Harekal, Rs. 49.5 mn each for Kumpala Three Cross and Mulki Annekere, Rs. 1.5 mn for the Devipura temple lake and amounts ranging from Rs. 5 mn to Rs. 20.6 mn for other sites. Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said more than 100 applications had been received, while maintenance consent from local administrations or gram panchayats would be required before work begins.
