Manipur CM Seeks Early Highway Start, Imphal Road Approval

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on October 8 and sought an early start to the proposed Shangshak-Tengnoupal Highway project. He also requested central approval for an elevated highway in Imphal to improve traffic movement and ease congestion in the state capital.

During the meeting, Khemchand raised several road connectivity issues facing Manipur and urged the ministry to expedite work on key highway projects. Gadkari informed him that the proposed Imphal elevated highway was under active consideration by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The Chief Minister also asked the Union minister to ensure that ongoing works on National Highway 37 and National Highway 2 were completed during the current working season. He said timely completion would strengthen connectivity and reduce difficulties for people travelling along the important highway corridors.

Gadkari assured Khemchand that the issues and projects raised by the state government would be addressed. He also assured the Chief Minister that the ministry would provide all possible assistance to Manipur in improving road connectivity and supporting the state’s broader development.

The meeting took place a day after Khemchand met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to brief him on the state government’s efforts to restore peace and normalcy. Shah has accepted Khemchand’s invitation to visit Manipur this month. The discussions with both Union ministers focused on the state’s infrastructure needs and efforts to improve conditions for residents.
