Margao Gets Green Light for Traffic-Busting Bridge and Ring Road Link

A collaboration between the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Railways has proposed a new Rs 104.6 crore rail overbridge in Margao, near Shree Damodar Vidyalaya schools. This, along with a missing link in the Margao ring road (Rs 95.8 crore), aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion.

Currently, a level crossing near the school disrupts traffic flow whenever trains pass. The new bridge will replace it, improving safety and traffic movement. Additionally, the missing ring road link, just 300 meters away from the school, will connect Power House Junction to Colva Circle.

These projects are crucial as the existing Margao ring road, partially operational since 2018, faced hurdles due to local opposition and litigation. However, with ongoing railway track doubling increasing train frequency, completing these projects becomes vital to avoid traffic chaos.

The state PWD also plans road improvements and widening across the state under Setu Bandhan, a scheme allocating petrol/diesel cess funds for road projects, with a total budget of Rs 350 crore.
