The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sanctioned Rs 140 mn for a road infrastructure project on National Highway-67 at Buchireddypalem municipality in the Kovur Assembly constituency. The approval follows a representation by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy seeking measures to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents in the rapidly growing town. The allocation is intended for comprehensive upgrades along the highway corridor within the municipality.

In a letter to the MP, NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav outlined the scope of works, which include laying load-bearing paver blocks, constructing cement concrete drains and shifting electrical lines along the stretch between km 722.330 and km 724.800. The measures will also cover utility shifting to facilitate road widening and pavement works without recurrent service disruptions. Technical specifications and tendering timetables were not disclosed in the communication.

NHAI said the works are expected to address long-standing issues arising from inadequate parking facilities, the absence of footpaths and traffic bottlenecks on the highway. The interventions are aimed at improving road safety for pedestrians and motorists and at facilitating smoother traffic flow through the town centre. Project engineers will need to coordinate with local authorities to manage traffic during construction to minimise disruption.

Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy expressed gratitude to the NHAI chairman for approving the initiative and indicated that the works would provide relief to motorists, traders and residents of Buchireddypalem. The project is expected to support local commerce by reducing travel delays and by improving access to roadside businesses. Continued engagement with municipal officials will be necessary to ensure that civic infrastructure upgrades align with urban development plans.
