The Noida Authority has directed officials to repair and resurface all damaged roads across the city by October 20, following the development of potholes and rough patches after recent monsoon rainfall. Chief executive officer Krishna Karunesh said action would be taken against officials responsible for delays. The directive covers all 10 work circles of the Authority. Roads in several locations, including Film City, Botanical Garden and sectors 15, 16, 37, 51 and 52, have developed potholes and uneven surfaces, with officials attributing the condition partly to resurfacing work not being completed on time. Inspections also led to disciplinary action over alleged illegal construction and lapses in civic oversight. Five contractual staff members were dismissed after reports by additional chief executive officers Vandana Tripathi and Pushp Raj Singh, and officer on special duty (OSD) Kranti Shekhar identified violations in Barola village and sectors 138 and 140. In the Barola case, a senior manager informed the Authority that a first information report had been registered and a notice issued to the accused. Two contractual employees, including a junior engineer and a supervisor, were removed for dereliction of duty while dealing with the encroachment. A junior engineer and a supervisor were also dismissed for failing to prevent illegal construction in sectors 138 and 140. One horticulture department official was removed as well. Further action followed inspections of waste management. A horticulture supervisor was dismissed after waste was found in a park in Sector 19’s B Block, while the contractor was fined Rs. 0.5 mn. Another contractor received the same fine after garbage was found along a road’s central verge in Nithari village. A door-to-door collection agency was fined Rs. 2.5 mn for delayed collection. Officials were also instructed to clean and reopen public conveniences by October 15. A new agency has been appointed to operate and maintain 256 facilities after an earlier contract expired.
