PWD and SJVN Sign MoU for Road Widening, 152 m Bridge

The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) have signed a memorandum of understanding for infrastructure development works valued at Rs. 728.2 mn under the rehabilitation and resettlement plan of the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydroelectric Project.

The agreement was signed by PWD superintending engineer Deepak Raj Chauhan and SJVN executive director Vikas Sharma in the presence of Himachal Pradesh public works and urban development minister Vikramaditya Singh in Shimla on Wednesday. The signing marks a framework for upgrading transport infrastructure in areas affected by the hydropower project.

Under the agreement, the major district road MDR-22 between Khaira and Ogli will be upgraded and widened. The plan also includes construction of a 152 m bridge over the Sutlej River at Ogli-Parlog, connecting areas that require improved access as project-related development progresses.

The infrastructure works are expected to improve road connectivity, support smoother movement and provide safer transport for local residents. The department and SJVN will undertake the works as part of measures intended to strengthen facilities in project-affected areas and support regional development.

Singh also reviewed the progress of works being carried out by SJVN and other departments. The review covered matters associated with the Jal Shakti Department, the Sunni division and coordination issues involving the project authorities.

The Sunni Dam project is a major hydropower initiative in Himachal Pradesh, and the rehabilitation and resettlement programme is intended to address infrastructure requirements arising in communities affected by its construction. The road and bridge projects are among the measures planned to improve public connectivity around the project area.
