TRAI Reviews Mobile Network Quality In Katra And Udhampur

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has recently released the findings of its Independent Drive Tests (IDT) conducted across Katra and Udhampur cities, the highway corridor between Katra and Udhampur, and the railway route from New Delhi to Katra in the Jammu & Kashmir Licensed Service Area. The assessment, carried out in December 2025, aimed to capture real-world mobile network performance across urban zones, hotspots, public transport hubs and high-speed corridors.

The tests covered 209 km of city drive routes, 43.7 km of highway stretches, 7.1 km of walk tests, six hotspot locations and 654 km of railway routes. Services across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies of Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea were evaluated for key voice and data parameters, including call setup success rate, drop call rate, speech quality, download and upload speeds, and latency.

Results showed relatively strong performance by Airtel and Reliance Jio across most parameters, while BSNL lagged on several voice and data metrics. In data services, Reliance Jio recorded the highest average download and upload speeds, followed by Airtel, while Vodafone Idea delivered moderate performance. The findings have been shared with all concerned telecom service providers for corrective action and network improvement.
