UP’s New 150-km Highway to Cut Moradabad-Aligarh Travel Time

The project involves upgrading the existing two-lane corridor into a four-lane, access-controlled highway. In Aligarh, acquisition will cover 45 villages across the Gabhana and Koil tehsils. The route will connect Moradabad with Aligarh through Amroha, Sambhal and Bulandshahr, while restrictions have already been imposed on the sale, purchase and registration of land in affected areas of Moradabad.

The journey currently takes around three to four hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The route passes through Chandausi, Babrala and Dibai, where congestion, narrow stretches and heavy traffic frequently slow vehicles. Once operational, the highway will allow speeds of up to 100 kmph and is expected to reduce travel time to around 1.5 to 2 hours.

The corridor will have controlled entry and exit points, with vehicles required to use designated interchanges. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers will not be permitted. Planned safety infrastructure includes underpasses, elevated bypasses and pedestrian bridges, along with a major bridge on the Aligarh-Moradabad section. A construction tender worth Rs. 125 mn for the bridge was issued in June 2026.

The highway is also planned to connect with the Ganga Expressway through a proposed Badaun link, offering a more direct route towards Prayagraj and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It will strengthen connections towards Agra, where work on the first 28-km package of the Agra-Aligarh four-lane highway began in March and is scheduled for completion by 2028. Together, the projects are intended to create continuous four-lane connectivity from Moradabad to Aligarh and onwards to Agra.

A new 150-km highway is being developed to improve connectivity between Moradabad and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, with authorities accelerating land acquisition in both districts. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is acquiring around 190 hectares across 22 villages in Moradabad, while compensation will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of affected farmers and other landowners.
