Vidyavihar Flyover Major Works Complete, Opening Set for October 10

Major construction work on the new flyover at Vidyavihar railway station in Mumbai has been completed, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carrying out the final installation of noise barriers. The civic body is expediting the remaining work and expects the flyover to be ready for traffic by October 10.

The two-lane flyover connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Road on the eastern side of the railway station with Lal Bahadur Shastri Road on the western side. It is 650 metres long, including a 100-metre section over the railway tracks, 220 metres of approach road on the eastern side and 330 metres on the western side.

An access connection has been provided from the flyover to the footpaths of Vidyavihar railway station. The project also included reconstruction of the ticket booking offices, the station master’s office and staircases on both sides of the station. A pedestrian pathway within the railway premises has been connected to the sub-road through a staircase.

According to the BMC, painting, street lighting and road works have been completed. The noise barrier, intended to reduce the impact of traffic on nearby residents, is in the final stage of installation.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the flyover and adjoining areas with traffic police officials on Thursday. He reviewed traffic flows, nearby junctions, signals, vehicle movement and pedestrian safety, and directed civic and police officials to coordinate arrangements for the opening. Officials have also been asked to install directional signage and barricades, regulate traffic where necessary and prepare a coordinated management plan to prevent congestion on approach roads, particularly during peak hours.
