Yogi government leads in sustainable road construction and waste disposal

Plastic waste, especially single-use plastic, along with bitumen is being used extensively in the construction and strengthening of roads in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative has become an example for the whole country, making the roads cost-effective and at the same time, ensuring its durability. Moreover, through this process, the proper disposal of single-use plastic waste is being promoted on the initiative of Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh. According to statistics from the Public Works Department, the Yogi government has constructed and strengthened roads totalling 813 km in Uttar Pradesh through this process, making it a leading state in this regard. In total, 466 roads and routes have been strengthened through this innovative initiative. On an average, one road is being constructed every day and a bridge is being built every three days. Besides plastic roads, the Yogi government is rapidly enhancing road connectivity in the state.

Rs.1.3 trillion to build 14 e-ways covering 2,000 km
The road transport and highways ministry will construct 14 new expressways and high-speed corridors totalling 2,279 km with an investment of Rs.1.3 trillion. These projects will be spread across states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Kerala, Gujarat, Raipur, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Jharkhand. The ministry has sent the proposal for seven projects with an estimated cost of around Rs.700 billion to other ministries for their feedback. These need approval from a panel before these are placed before the Cabinet.

To decongest Ayodhya, ministry plans Rs.35 billion 68 km bypass
To decongest Ayodhya and adjoining areas, the road transport and highways ministry has sought special approval from the Centre to build a 68 km Greenfield bypass with an investment of Rs.35 billion. NHAI has invited bids for this 4/6 lane highway that will cover Lucknow, Basti and Gonda districts. The project in two parts has been envisaged considering the rapid increase in passenger and freight vehicle movement expected in the region after the inauguration of Ram temple. As per estimates, traffic may increase from the current 89,023 per day to 0.217 million daily in 2033.

With pollution control mechanism, Ring Road project up in Manipur
Biren Singh, CM, Manipur, laid the foundation for the Rs.17.66 billion Imphal Ring Road Project for which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide financial assistance of Rs.13.74 billion. The 51.23 km long Imphal Ring Road Project, which was and approved in 2020, will ease traffic congestion and curb pollution in Imphal West district. The most interesting part of the project is that it includes a noise pollution control mechanism, which is the first of its kind in India. Also 9.5 km of the road would be four-lane while 41.5 km would be two-lane with paved shoulders. The road includes an 18 km stretch of Green field with a solar lamp, footpath and cycle lane.

NHAI gears up with DPR for Coimbatore-Karur Greenfield Highway
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a significant step to address traffic bottlenecks by appointing a consultant to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed Greenfield highway connecting Karur and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Recognising the escalating challenges posed by the substantial increase in vehicular movements leading to traffic bottlenecks, NHAI proposed creation of a new road between Karur and Coimbatore several years ago. Recent developments indicate that NHAI has expedited preparatory work for project approval, with the appointment of a Bengaluru-based consultant for the DPR.
