The proposed 534-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail-corridor project would cost Rs 63,000 crore. The amount is more than the Rs 51,000 crore annual planned expenditure of the entire Indian Railways network of over 60,000 km. And while the government is considering options to make it PPP project, most of the high-speed railways operating internationally are funded by the state.
