Airfloa-Led Consortium Wins Rs. 348.5 mn Vande Bharat Contract

Airfloa Rail Technology and Italy-based BLUE Engineering have secured a contract worth Rs. 348.5 mn from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, to design the interiors of the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset. Airfloa will lead the consortium and complete the assignment within 12 months of receiving the Letter of Acceptance (LoA).

The contract value includes GST and covers two principal areas of the sleeper train development programme. Interior design work accounts for Rs. 309.3 mn, while associated development activities account for Rs. 39.3 mn. The two components have a combined value of approximately Rs. 348.6 mn, slightly above the announced contract value.

The scope includes interior designing for the Vande Bharat sleeper trains and related development work. ICF, which is responsible for manufacturing railway coaches, awarded the contract to the consortium on October 13, 2026. The assignment expands Airfloa’s role from component manufacturing and interior furnishing into the design of a complete trainset.

Airfloa has previously undertaken railway interiors, seating, furnishings and rolling stock component work for Indian Railways and other rail projects. Its earlier assignments have included interior furnishing and engineering work for the Vande Bharat Express, Vistadome coaches, the Agra-Kanpur Metro, the Regional Rapid Transit System and export coach projects for Sri Lanka.

The partnership with BLUE Engineering brings an international engineering company into the design programme, with Airfloa serving as the Indian lead member. The consortium is required to complete the contracted work within 12 months from the date of the LoA. The available project details do not specify a separate milestone schedule or a precise completion date for the interior design work.
