Bhopal, Indore Metro Projects receives 6 bids

The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) recently received six bids for the Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) tender related to the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) Systems for the Bhopal and Indore Metro projects.

The appointed DDC by MPMRCL will be responsible for generating and proposing alternative designs for the electrical and mechanical works within Package BH-IN-21. This package encompasses 9 underground and 24 elevated stations for both Bhopal and Indore Metro, with a timeline set at 4.4 years.

Package BH-IN-21 includes stations for both Bhopal and Indore Metro. For Bhopal, it consists of BH-03 (6 elevated stations) & BH-04 (2 underground stations) on the Orange Line, and BH-05 (13 elevated stations) on the Blue Line. For Indore, it covers IN-04 (5 elevated stations) and IN-O5 (7 underground stations) on the Yellow Line.

Participating bidders for the project are Ardanuy India, Ayesa India, LKT Engineering Consultants, STUP Consultants, SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd., and Tata Consulting Engineers.

The tender, issued in September 2023, had an estimated value of Rs 150.7 million. The bids will undergo a technical evaluation process, after which the Lowest Bidder will be determined.

Turning to the Bhopal and Indore Metro projects, Bhopal Metro's Phase 1 project was approved by the state government in December 2016 and by the Central Government's cabinet in October 2018. It includes two lines: Line-2 (Orange Line) from Karond Circle to AIIMS covering 14.99 km and Line-5 (Blue Line) from Bhadbhada Square to Ratnagiri Tiraha covering 12.91 km. The Priority Corridor of Bhopal Metro is set to be completed and opened in March 2024.

Indore Metro, a Mass Rapid Transit System, is being constructed by MPMRCL at an estimated cost of Rs 75 billion. Phase 01 covers 31.5 km with 29 stations, allowing metro trains to reach speeds of 80 km/hr.

The Bhopal Metro aims to provide efficient and eco-friendly commuting within the city. Alstom Transport India has manufactured a 3-coach train for the Bhopal Metro, boasting a seating capacity of 50 and room for 300 standing passengers.
