Big tender for train crash prevention system

In response to the triple-train accident in Balasore, Odisha, which claimed nearly 300 lives, Indian Railways is getting ready to spend 50,000 million on Kavach automatic train protection (ATP) systems, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

The persons, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that two tenders for Kavach with a combined total of 12,000 kilometres (km) will be launched within a year as opposed to a tender for 3,000 km that was issued in 2021.

Even if the train pilot misses and ignores warning signs, Kavach prevents head-on collisions. The train applies brakes on its own if the driver doesn't regulate it in accordance with the speed limits. The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) worked with Indian industry to design the cutting-edge electronic system, which South Central Railway then tested.
