DMRC Faces Rs 155.4 Million Loss Due to Substandard Contractor Work

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has flagged a Rs 155.4 million shortfall in recovery by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) due to poor construction quality by a contractor. According to the CAG report tabled in Parliament, the contractor's failure to rectify defects during the defect liability period forced DMRC to engage a different contractor for repair work, incurring Rs 118.5 million in expenses, including consultancy costs. Additionally, DMRC incurred Rs 78.1 million in incidental expenses for shifting affected allottees to alternative accommodations and covering lease charges, brokerage, and related costs. The report highlights a significant lapse in recovering these costs from the responsible contractor, raising concerns over accountability and financial management. (ET)
