DMRC receives the first locally developed signaling system

The i-ATS (Indigenous - Automatic Train Supervision), developed jointly by PSU Bharat Electronics (BEL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), is the first train control and supervision system ever introduced by an Indian transit system (Rithala to Shaheed Sthal).

In the presence of Vikas Kumar, MD, Delhi Metro, Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, CMD, BEL, and other senior DMRC and BEL officials, Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Chairman, Delhi Metro, officially launched the i-ATS system on the Red Line from the Operations Control Centre (OCC), Shastri Park.

India is the sixth nation to join a select group of a few in the world that have their own ATS products.

The i-ATS System will be used for operations on the other operational corridors of Delhi Metro and the upcoming independent corridors of the Phase – 4 Project, starting with the Red Line. Using i-ATS, Preventive Maintenance modules will also be added to the Phase 4 corridors. In addition, operations of other rail-based systems, such as Indian Railways, can benefit from i-ATS. This innovation has been created with adaptability to work with various Flagging seller's frameworks with reasonable changes.

Since the ATS (Automatic Train Supervision) is an important subsystem of the CBTC Signalling system, the development of the i-ATS is a significant step toward the development of an indigenously built CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) based signalling system for the Metro railway. The train operations management system known as ATS is computer-based.

For high-train density operations like the Metro, where services are scheduled every few minutes, this system is essential. The majority of technology systems, like the CBTC, are controlled by other nations. Indian Metros will be less dependent on foreign vendors who deal with such technologies after i-ATS is implemented. The decision to indigenize the CBTC technology had been made by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This development involves BEL, DMRC, RDSO, and other associates in addition to MoHUA.
